The Principality of Valburn

Like the Grand Duchy of Grinadier, The Principality of Valburn was once a part of Celedon. However, rather than a gift from a gracious king, it was born out of dissension. Approximately 500 years ago, Prince Valburn Horn, son of King Nathan Horn, rebelled against his father and the land that is now Valburn was the terms of the peace between the two. As a result, there has always been an element of animosity between the two kingdoms.

75 years ago, this animosity grew to hatred when Prince Thomas Valburn (all rulers take the name Valburn) legalized the worship of Malum and poisoned the king of Celedon, Geoffrey Drake, leaving the two year old Marcus Drake to rule. Declaring himself King Thomas Valburn, he declared war on Celedon (What is now called the Second War of the Heavens), and temporarily conquered Celedon with the help of the humanoids to the north and vile, evil creatures from the netherworld. Valburn was finally stopped in Grinadier and the terms of the peace placed Edward Valburn as ruler of Valburn. Edward Valburn was a cousin of Thomas Valburn who had been imprisoned for his refusal to worship Malum. Edward Valburn immediately removed the temples to Malum and outlawed this horrific religion. Additionally, he reinstated the practice of taking the title of Prince, rather than King.

Over the last 75 years, an alliance between the countries has grown and they are at peace today, although it is shaky as many remember the horrors of the Second War of the Heavens. The current prince is Prince Harold Valburn. Prince Harold has continued the practices set forth by his grandfather, Edward Valburn, and has done whatever he can to keep the peace with Celedon.
